RADIO PICNIC.

BIG DAY AT ADDINGTON. 3000 CHILDREN ENTERTAINED. Many happy meetings between broadcasters and listeners took place at the Addington Trotting Grounds on Saturday when Radio Station 3YA Entertained about 3000 children and their parents at a picnic. f The picnic party left Cathedral square at 11 a.m. and lunched at the racecourse at noon. Soon afterwards the side-show,s commenced and a treasure' hunt, sack races, bun races, obstacle races, Punch and Judy show, Jack and the Beanstalk act, juggling, wheelbarrow races, running and'skipping races, boot jumble race, Highland dancing, hornpipe and Teel dancing, and a skittle alley kept the children interested. For those to whom test of skill or strength did not appeal there were merry-go-round rides, model .train rides, stage coach rides, pony rides, and a pet parade. . All the children who had assisted Aunt Pat (Miss Maynard Hall) in broadcasting during the last four years were her guests at lunch under tne grandstand. The sports were conducted by tlio various aunts and uncles, who also called for a certain number of little invalids and took them to trie trotting grounds. _ ~ „ V a The picnic was instituted by tlie diA Sessions Committee for listeners and the general public, but Saturdays event was the first children's picnic to be conducted on a large scale, lhe Now Brighton Municipal Band gavo its services free for tlio afternoon and played a programme of bright selections. Between 2.30 p.m. and 3 P- jnthere was a relay session trom the picnic grounds, and the children's session at 5 o'clock was conducted as Tlio pet parade was won by J. _Gillard, Miss Odtin waj second, and Thomas third. Marjone Walton was highly commended. Sports results wore as follows: Bun Races: — Boys (13 to 15 years—lvan Tankard 1, C.
