' , Marjorie Oliver, who had been convicted of drunkenness three times previously during the last six months, on a similar charge was convicted and sentenced to three months' impri- , sonment with hard labour. On a second charge of wilfully damaging Government property valued at 15b, she was ordered to pay the amount of the damage,' in default 48 hours'. imprisonment with hard labour, MOTOR DRIVER CHARGED. Leslie Norman Mcintosh, aged 26 yearß, a fitter, of 425 Tuam street (Mr W. J. Hunter), was charged that on January 25th, 193)., he negligently drove a motor-car thereby causing the death of George Harland Garbutt. On tho application of the poljce he was remanded to appear at Kaiapoi on February 27 th. TRAFFIC OFFENCES. For parking motor-cars at night without lights the following were fined Charles Clark, 5s and costs; Edw&rd P. de la Cour, 5s and costs; Charles H. G. Mullins, 58 and costs; and Muriel Pennington, 5b and costßj Godfrey W. Beumelburg, 5s a-nd costs and 10s and costs for not having a motor-driver s license. „ . ■ .. Charged with cycling on the footpath, the following were fined: —Frank Rutherford Candy, 10s and costs; Maurice William Heath, 5s and costs; Elizabeth Stewart, 10s and costs;, William Brown Ellwood, 10s and coßts. For cycling at night without a light, Noel Hobbs was fined 10s without costs, and Walter Ryan 5s without costs. 1 Gerald Richard Cockle, for a similar offence, was fined 5s and costs, and for not having a bell on his bicycle was fined 5s without costs. Irvine Groen was fined 10b and costs for cycling without a light, and 5s without costs for having no bell on the bicycle. Charged with failing to give way, Jack Caldwell Forward (Mr P. P. J. Amodeo) w&b fined £3 and costs, Frederick Jennings £2 and Costs, Eva Winifred Treven'a 10s and costs. Hector Raphael, on a similar charge, waß fined £2 and costs and was convicted and discharged for cutting a corner. • . . For passing a stationary- tram-car JonU Price was fined 10s and costs. For driving motor vehicles at night with insufficient lighting Violet Claridge was fined 5s and costs, Gordon Charles, Smith 5b and costs, and Norman John Swift 5s and costs. George Vere Smyth, for carrying passengers on the running-board of: his motor-car, was fined 20s and costs. For cutting a corner, Arthur G. Hembro\y (Mr W. F. Tracy) was fined £2 and costs, while a Similar charge a<gainst-Ellen Jane Curtis (Mr T. -Papprill) was dismissed. Gertrude Johnson was fined - 10s and costs for negligently driving a motor-car. Joseph i William Walker (Mr R. Twyneham) was fined £2 and costs for dangerous driving. Joseph Herbert Nuttall (Dr. A. L. H&slam), who drove d motor-car without being the holder of a motor-driver's license, was fined10s and oosts. , For breaches of -Section 17 of the Motor Vehicles Act; Albert B. D. Clark was fined 5s and cpsts, and Ronald Vernon Foster 5s without costs. Mr G. G. Lockwood appeared fori I both defendants. George Major Milson (Mr F» S&rgezxt) I was convicted acd discharged, for allowing a > passenger to travel on tne running-board of | his motor-car, and was fined 5s and coßts for ' failing to produce hia motor-driver's license. • Kenneth 8. McOallum (Mr F. D. Sargont), charged with being a passenger on the run-ning-board of a'motor-car, was convicted and r discharged. VOLUNTARY APPEARANCES. Thomas Charles Kearns, for negligently driving a* motor-cycler was fined £2 a-nd'costs. John William Dalton, for parking a motorcar without lights, was 'fined 5s and costs.' John O'Connell, for driving a-,horse and cart without lights, Was fined 5s and costs. Leonard Newton,, for driving a motor-ca* which had i»o tall-light, was fined 5s and costs.
