NO. 5 SCHEME.
MEN EMPLOYED BY LOCAL
BODIES.
From figures supplied by local bodies in and around fchristchurch. a reporter ascertained yesterday that • the total number of men . employed by them under the. Unemployment Board's No. 5 Scheme is well over 1800: Next week tins total will be increased by at least 150. Details follow:
, By Monday night the City Council's total will be increased to 1930; and next jveek the Heathcoto County intend taking on an additional 40 to 60 men, some to replace men who have dropped out. TMa Week the county employed 96 foursday men, ,122 three-day men, and 122 two-day men. The pay-roll for the week amounted• to & 681' 13s. The Waimakariri Biver Trust ,is providing transport daily for 60 men from the City to. the Trust 'a reserves, where the work is being done. Continuing -their tour of Canterbury fojr the purpose of organising local unempdoyment oommittees. Messrs R. T. Bailey and P. R. Climie have visited the following districts in the last few days:—Akaroa.' Duvauchelle, Little River, Springston, Leeston, EDoforata, Halsvrell, Mount Herbert, and Paparua. - Ih every centre' visited they have bees ofhearty co-opera-tion. 1 ,-U,v^: ; v.'C v \
