wheat duties.
At the Mid-Canterbury executive of the Farmers' Union meeting yesterday, the president (Mr G. Tait) stated that Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., Dominion president, wished him to make it clear that the statement he was reported to have made atj Hawera, that "The wheat duties must go as they were unsound in principle," was absolutely incorrsct. His attitude on this question had rot altered since he visited Ashburton last year, when he said that "In the event of a general reduction in tariff duties, he would insist that wheat protection would bear its share of the reduction." Mr Tait stated that it was only fair to Mr Poison to make this explanation, as it could not be claimed that he had been inconsistent in the matter. Wheatgrowers would take no exception to a reduction in the duties provided that adequate reduction was made in the duties .of other, articles. Magistrate's Court.
