BOROUGH COUNCILS.

RANGIORA. The Rangiora Borough Council wet last ■evening. Present:' The Mayor (Mr 0. S. Ayers).. Crs. K. B. Gillandors, B. H. Bailey. I J. liindon, 0. W. Tyler, H. K. Kippenbergor. W. E. Horrell, F. E. Martyn, and W. Carson Wilson. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr 0. I. Jennings, an ex-Mayor and an ex-Councillor, who is indisposed; also a letter of sympathy to the family of Mr Bosomworth, formerly town clerk of KaiaPOi. The Bluff Borough Council wrote that hecause of electric fire alarms being put out of action bo often by current being out off, it was its intention to install a flrebell, and asking the Council if they had one for for sale. The Council decided to reply that they had no bell for sale. The sanitary inspector reported that during the month 88 sewer connexions had been completed and inspected, making & total of 192 completed connexions. The Works Committee reported having paid & vi%it to inspect the various live fences in the borough, . particularly at the irterseetions of streets. Notices bad been Bent to owners whose hedges need cutting. The committee also recommended that traffic domes be placed at the corner of Sedaon and Kincr streets, Seddon and A vera streets, and King, and Queen streets. ■ Or. Bailey was authorised to purchase seven tons of oatsheaf chaff. On the recommendation 'of the Works Committee the engineer was instructed to proceed _ with the following kerbing and channelling: East side of Good street, Edward street, Alfred street, and Ayers street. The work is to he done under the No. 5 unemployment scheme. It'was decided to give notice to owners of I fiiise* destroyed by fire in Blackett and Pcrclval street* to remove same. The joint committee recommended that a grant of £5 be paid for expense* of Mr IV Prostney, who has completed 25 years' ser- ; vice in the Fire Brieade, so that ha can attend the Fir# Brigades' conference to, receive hit 28 years' gold star.—The recommendation was approved. The Mayor was apfftnted Rangiora representative, on the Earthquake Belief Committee with headquarters in Chriatchurcli. Cr. 0. G. Bell was granted two months' ■leave of _ absence from Council. meetings. Subdivisions of the nropprfcv of Mr W. Parsons in King street and Mr B. Scott's property in Ayers street were approved. - The Finance Committee recommended . that an agreement; he' signed and sealed with the A.MiP. Society with' reference to payment of principal and Interest in Wellington instead of Sydney, was agreed to. It was decided toapprove of the security proposed by the Sinking Fund Commissioners. It was also decided that the electrical engineer meet the Council at a spectal meetiiK with reference to supply for waterworks. The town clerk reported that matters in ; connexion with "loan money' for water loan had not yet . h'een finalised. The tender of Mr B. F. Watson for p lease of the sweets stall at the Town Hall for five years was accepted. The tender of the Wanganni Steel ■ Spiral Company for pines and fittings required?-la connexion with the water schemes, was ' accepted, tho price being £4638 8s 6d. • m . The ' tender of MeSsrs Booth, Macdon&d and Co. for hydrant boxes, etc., at £loß'Bs Bd, was > also accepted, • Accounts amounting to £914 18s 5d were passed for payment.
