Endeavouring to board the 4.23 train as it moved out from the • Lyttelton railway station yesterday afternoon, John Crocker, a waterside-worker, employed by the Harbour Board, fell, and after being dragged for -some distance, was crushed between the railway car-: riage and the platform, death being instantaneous!

An inquest was conducted last evening by Mr H.i A. Young, Coroner. William Thomas Crocker gave evidence of identification. He said his father was' 68 yearsof age/ and in good health. He resided at 80 Barbadoes Btreet, Sydenham. He last saw his 'father at 7 sum. on February 10th. jvan Neil Barkle, station clerk at liyttelton,. said he.waaon duty on the liyttelton "railway, station yesterday afternoon. The train was immediately stopped after having travelled, only. about one car length. Witnessed assisted to pull the man. on to the station platform. He was dead, the head being badly .crushed.
