S NEW OFFICER ARRIVES. [THB PRESS Special Service.], —■ ■ ■ ■ ' i ' AUCKLAND, February 20. The new officer to command the Devonport Naval Base, Commander E v L. Berthon, arrived from Southampton' by the Rangitata. He was accomp.nnied by Mrs Berthon, to whom he i was giarried last December. . Commander Berthon, who was one of the naval officers who took part in the historic raid on Zeebrugge in April, 1918, is to succeed Commander ' Nelson Clover at the naval base, "and will' take up his duties' this month. 1 Commander who then held the rank of Lieutenant, was one of the officers on board H.M.S. Vindictive when she ran alongside, the mole at Zeebrugge. The bluejackets - and marines, led by their officers, of whom Commander Berthon was one,-went over the side by means of speciallyprepared gangways,. and in face of a deadly fire from the shore batteries it was recorded of them that ,they swarmed ashore "with" undaunted gallantry, and fought their way splendidly > into the German defences."
