Preaching at St. Mary's, Cathedral, Auckland, on some of his impressions of England, Archbishop Averil] said that while it was difficult to see how England could have overcome the nightmare ol unemployment except by lie-ivy taxation to provide the dole, Vfii undoubtedly the dole system, neceseaiy as he believed it to be, was bound to weaken the morale of the nation. It was also increasing the taxation ot employers to such an extent that in jnany cases it had reached breaking point.
