SELWYN HUTS.

CONTROL OF TENNIS COURTS. MEETING OF DOMAINS BOARD. The Springston South Domains Board met yesterday, Mr E. J. Harris presiding. Also present were: Messrs W. Stewart (Commissioner of Crown Lands), P. J. do la Cour, F. W. Woodward, G. Mcßean, C. N. C. Powell, E. H. Rowell, S. F. Barnett, C. Wolfe, and S. Jameson (secretary). Tho Finance Committee reported that there was a balance of £249 2s lOd in hand. The Grounds Committee reported that it had visited the Domain and had had some trees trimmed. Occupiers of untidy sections had been notified to clear them. Some sections had not been connected with the sewerage system, and it was decided, in reference to one of them, to inform the occupier that unless his section was put in satisfactory order and the connexion made, the Board at its next meeting would consider the cancellation of his license. An application to lease 32 perches of the reserve for the purposes of establishing a miniature golf links was received. _ The Board decided that the application was for a right to conduct private business in a domain, and that therefore the lease could not be granted. Consideration of the adjustment of boundaries and of subdivision was deferred until the next meeting. The Tennis Courts. Mr E. J. Jamieson waited on the Board on behalf of the Hut Owners' Association to come to an arrangement concerning the control of the tennis courts at the Selwyn Hluts. Mr Jamieson said that the courts were a bone of contention at present, as nobody knew who had a right to control players. There had been occasions when children had been ordered off the courts, and certain players had monopolised them to tho inconvenience of others, so that some form of organisation or club seemed necessary. Some months ago the Board had offered to arrange a lease to the Association, and they would now be pleased to take advantage of the offer for twelve months as a preliminary period. The matter ha*» been discussed, and a fee of 10s per year for adult members, with 5s for children, and sixpenoe and threepence respectively for visiting players, bad been suggested. There was need for something definite as at present there was only an unwritten law, which was frequently trespassed". Thev wished to avoid any unpleasantness during the holidays. He thanked the Board for the consideration given the Association in the past. Mr Barnett said that he would like to see two days set apart in each week when visitors could play free of charge. This privilege had been extended them since the time when tho courts were first laid down. The chairman said that the proposal was in accordance with the offer ot the Board. The courts always cost a few pounds each year, and he took it that they would not shelve their obligations in that matter. Mr W. Stewart said that he thought such a thing should be controlled by the people on the spot. A definite lease could not be arranged in a short period, but there was no objection to temporary arrangements being made with a view to later completion. On the motion of Mr Barnett it was decided that a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Stewart, De I/a Cour, Woodward, and Barnett, should meet the Hut Owners' Association before Sunday to arrange further conditions and to inform them that the Boai'd was prepared to grant the Association control of the courts until the end of January in the meantime at a rental of 10s.
