"THE BIG POND." Showing at the Crystal Palace this week is Maurice Chevalier's latest talking picture, "The Big Pond," in which he is more disastrous than ever to tho feminine heart. His fascinating smile, quaint modes of expression, and utter disregard for all the conventions score him an6ther big hit. The "big pond" is, of course, the Atlantic Ocean, in airy American parlance. An American family, headed by a chewing-gum magnate, visits Venice, where the pretty daughter falls in Jove with her courier. Chevalier. The family is disgusted, and more so, naturally, is the American suitor. The father resorts to finesse. He invites the courier to take » post in his huge factory. Chevalier, whose picture name it Pierre Mirande, acceptß with delight, believing that the offer is a genuine one. . .
