STRIKING TRIBUTE.
LATE FATHER GILBERT* A striking tribute to the memory of the late Father T. A. Gilbert, formerly Beetor of St. Bede's College, was paid by the Acting-Rector, Father A. L. Burger, S.M , M.A., during his address at the annual priee-giving yesterday. Father Burger spoke wartnly Of the Commemoration Day service which had been established by Father Gilbert. "Next year there will be a particular commemoration," he added, "the commemoration of the author «rf this great act of gratitude. There is none who will be remembered so sincerely on Commemoration Day as Father Gilbert. You boys, of course, never knew the real Father Gilbert. His life's work was at St. Patrick's College, Wellington. He came here tvhen he was somewhat tailing in health, and laboured on in spite of his infirmities. "A Martyr to Education." "The great work by which he will always be remembered was the transformation of the brioh gymnasium into a temple of God. He was a Christian teacher, a scholar, and a gentleman.
