ENGLISH OFFICIAL MURDERED.
ATTACKED BY THREE BENGALIS,
DELHI, December 8. A sensation has been caused in Calcutta by the murder of LieutenantColonel T. C. Simpson, InspectorGeneral of Prisons in Bengal, by throe young Bengalis, in his office. Mr Nelson, tlie Judiciary "Secretary, was wounded. The assailants entered the Secretariat buildings, forced their way into Lieuten.int-Colonel Simpson's room, and fired six shots, killing him instantly. Thev then dashed along the verandah, shooting wildly, entered Mr Nelson's room, and shot him in a leg. One of the murderers then poisoned himself, and the other two shot themselves. Thoy are at present in a critical condition. [Lieutenant-Colonel Trevor Claude Simpson, C.1.E., was 53 years, of age. Me was appointed to the Indian (Imperial) Police in 1896. In 1912 he was made Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Bengal ; Deputy-Inspector-Genernl. 1919; and Inspector-General in 1923.]
