POWER BOARD.
SPRINGS-ELLESMERE. The monthly meeting of the Springs-EUcs-mero Electric Power Board, held at Leeston on Monday, was attended by Messrs H. is'eavo (chairman), A. IZ. Langdale Hunt, E. H. Rowell, R. T. McMillan, and G. Maginness. Tho engineer-secretary (Mr L. C. Vicary) stated in iiis report that the revenue for November had totalled .£IBOS 2s Cd for 183,14-1 units (lighting £O2O 12s Bd, heating £345 14s lid, power £51)8 14s lid), as compared with £17:10 13s lid for the corresponding month of last year. The cost of current for the month amounted to £717 18s Bd, an increase of .157 Bs. Tho Bourd discussed the question of making rebates to those consumers who were unablo to use thier water-heaters for a month during the most acute stage of the power shortage at Lake Coleridge. A rebate had been received from the Public Works Department, but this was not sufficient to make good all tho losses suffered by consumers and the Board during the shortage. Claims had also been received for refunds with respect to street lighting. 'Pile matter was deferred until next month. The Board's solicitor wrote regarding the propose I raising of a loan of £25.000 over the whole area—£ls,ooo for tho purchase of the Tai Tapu Dairy Company's reticulation and Public Works Department's lines, and £IO.OOO for further extensions in any part of tho power district. The engineer stated that notice had been given of intention to raise the loan, and that no objections had been received within the time allowed by Statute. It was decided to make application to the Local Bodies' Loans Board for permission to raise tho money, and if this is granted, to submit the proposals to the rate payers by poll. The Leeston Town Board applied for a rebate because of tho street lights having been disconnected for over six weeks during the power shortage. It was decided to reply that the matter of rebates was still under consideration, and that the Board had not yet received a reply to the letter it sent to the Publ:c Works Department. A request from the Springs Oouniy Council that poles should he removed from a footpath at Uolleston was referred to the engineer to deal with.
