Y.M.C.A.

« At the monthly meeting of tho Board of Directors of the Y.M.C.A. there were present. Messrs J. W. Hillary (in the chair), S. L. Partridge, J. I. Royds, K. G. Archer, F. H. Sandall, A. M. West, S. W. Jameson, D. E. Parton, and the general secretary (Mr A. J. McEldowney). In presenting a condensed report of the activities of the Association, tho general secretary stated that a good deal of the preparation for the Christmas season was under way, and that dates for various functions had been arranged as follows: Residents' Board and staff party for poor children between the ages of five and ten, Tuesday December 16th; the Optimists' Club Christmas dinner for eighty poor children between the ages of nine and fourteen, Wednesday, December 17th; residents' Christmas dinner, Friday, December 19th; residents' Christmas service, Sunday, December 21st. It was reported that arrangements were practically completed for the Summer Camp, to be held at Wainui from December 20th to January 27th. The Rotary Club were sending 30 poor boys into the camp from January 10th to January 24th, and members of the club would visit the camp on January 17th. In connexion with the selection of the boys, this was left in the hands of the Boys' Work Director, who presented to the Board a letter frow one parent who expressed his gratitude for the selection of his boy, as he himself had been out of work, for five months and could not possibly have given his boy a holiday. Mr C. G. Pegg, the Physical Director, in his report mentioned that a party of about 20 senior members of the Association would leave for a walking tour of the North Island on December 24th, returning to Christchurch on January 6th.
