To-morrow.'s Sale. Prospective buyers ave reminded of tihe sale of Mr George Gould's throe three-year-olds, Pharaoh, Jael, and Galante, to be held at tho Eic,carton scraping sheds at 9.30 a.m. to-morrow. The two firstnamed have been nominated for events on both days of the Duneclin Meeting. Regaining Form. Footfall suffered no ill effects from, his race at Ashburton, and when paraded at Kiccaxton yesterday, ho looked as well as ho was two years ago. That he can still stand up to plenty of work lie showed by galloping nine furlongs on the plough with well over nine stone on his back, and although he was not extended at any part, he registered very fair time. Provided everything goes right with him in tho meantime, he will make a good return on his southern trip at Christmas. Likely Cup Candidate. Paquito was very lame after galloping on Saturday morning, and F. I>. Jones had ideas of discontinuing liis preparation, but decided to give him a final test yesterday morning. His task was nine furlongs on tho plough, and with G. Humphries in the saddle he covered the full distance in the good time of 1.58. He was accompanied by Shatter over the last seven furlongs, snd the pair kept abreast until the last fifty yards, when Paquito put in a telling finishing spurt, and beat his young rival by half a length. This was the best gallop credited to Paquito for some l ime, and was probably as good as any registered on the track over nine furlongs this season. lie went freely throughout, and appeared anxious to I r.ontinne the journey. When cooled J down he did not exhibit the soreness which has affected him after working i'or some weeks past and evidently the trouble has been overcome. His progress during the next week will be followed with interest, as provided Paquito goes to the post fit and sound, he will cause a good deal of trouble to the opposition in the Auckland Cup. Impressive "Work. CraigavoE. and Coroner were responsible for an attractive gallop over six "furlongs on the plough at Eiecarton yesterday, the latter finishing half a length in front of his mate in 1.16 2-5. Craigavon is to have an easy time over the holiday period, but Coroner may be taken to Auckland as a result of this gallop. He was left in the Royal Stakes, and was nominated for hack events, but last week it was decided that he was not forward enough to tackle the trip. A change of plans is now likely. In Great Heart. First Sight was anxious to do better in a six furlong gallop on tho plough at ICiccarton yesterday, his time being lmin 17 2-ssec. The big gelding has caused 110 anxiety since resuming active work, and has only to keep in his present sound state to race prominently at Ellerslie. Gillett's Representatives. Count Cavour has been suffering from shoulder trouble lately, and his trainer is not keen on the prospeets of taking him to Auckland. He was restricted to a working gallop over six furlongs yesterday, and did not strike out as freely as could be wished. His brother, Gustavo, on the other hand, has been giving every satisfaction and yesterday reeled off half a mile in good time. A decision as to the movements of this pair will be delayed until later in tho week, but there is every possibility of the three-year-old going north. The Cup Favourite. Nightmarch and True Shaft will leave for Auckland on Tuesday next. The former was galloped over seven furlongs the reverse way on tho plough yesterday. Accompanied by Sight Draft, ho was some two lengths in front of the Paper Money filly at the half mile covered in olsec, and then completed the journey alone in lmin 29 3-ssec, withgut being asked to do his best. A Speedy Filly. Solvent gave a further indication of her marked speed by sprinting three furlongs on the plough yesterday in 3Gsec. She caused a good deal of
\ trouble before soiling' off on licv lasl*.. j and it is on this account that slie if* I not galloped to any extent, most of her | work being executed on the lead. It will j be imfortuuate it' licr track behaviour J should impair her ability, as at present i she can be classed as one of t-ho moat [ brilliant sprinters trained at Biecaxj toil for some time. i West Coast Circuit. Judging l>y the nominations received bv the Westland Ituc, iug Club for their Summer Meeting ou December 2Ctli and "7tli, the West Coast holiday circuit j will account for a largo gathering- of ! horses from various parts of the South ; island. In addition to the usual strong * representation from Kiccarton horses trained at Wingutui and Washdyke figure in tlie list. Tim Kicoarton contingent comprises:—Minerval, Kinging Cheer. The Haider. Channelise, Kentish Lady. iSohvit, Tariff. 'Eaton Hal), JCapina, Kanio, Crand Ac-re, Audience, l!eau (leste, J'a;tgolin_, Sapient, .Flair, Miss "Aiereia, •Sk-ipner, Abert'oUly, Giggleswiek, Mime, Tip Trr><>, General Assembly, and Arrow Maid. I'or Ellcrslie, .V. A'. Mason tt.-;uu lor the Auckland Mooting will ho Jaloux, I'raise, and likley. The trio hnve boon in strong work since tlie New Zealand Cup Meeting, and have executed all their tasks ! the- reverse way for the past few weeks. | Mason will .leave for the north on Thnrsi dav of next week.
TROTTING NOTES
New Brighton Acceptances. | The acceptances received for tho New Brighton Trotting Club's Meeting to be held on .Saturday next constitute something of a record, for of the 246 nominations recei/od —an average of just on 00 per race—no fewer than 170 engagements have been continued, an average of over 20 a race. The presence ol' tho early favourites, Arethusa and Tenedos, in the Mace Memorial will add a good deal of interest to this race, and as to which will be favourite is a question. Both will be quite at home on the New Brighton track and tho better stayer will have the advantage. There are others, however, in Eegal Voyage, Mae Dillon, and Baynut, whose chances cannot be ignored. Arethusa and Bed Shadow. The handicapper for tho Auckland Trotting Club, Mr Geo. Paul, evidently expects a great race between Rod Shadow and Arethusa in the Great Northern Derby, for in tho Altar;. la Handicap, of a mile and a quarter, ho lias placed both on 24 yards behind, representing a 2min Slscc mark. At Forbury Park Red Shadow from a 2min 57see mark won tho Brighton Handicap in 2min 45 3-ssec, and subsequently won the Tainui Handicap, of a mile and a half, in 3inin 20 l-ssec. On 2min 51sec he is nicely placed, but he will need track conditions to be well nigh perfect before he can be expected to show his best. A. Bryce's Engagements. Andrew Bryce, who has already won three Auckland Cups, two with Gold Jacket and one with Man o' War, loft for the north on Monday.- At the recent Auckland Meeting ho was associated with Logan's Pride in three .winning engagements and it is not known whether he will drive this gelding or Gold Jacket in tho big Auckland race. It is more than possible that he will be behind the back-marker. A Clever Beinsman. It is possible that C. Aker, tho clever New Brighton Teinsman, will visit Auckland the Christmas holidays. There are few better young reinsmen in the country than this driver, and his ! services should be in keen demand. Addlngton Training Notes. Weather conditions and the track were almost perfect for training work at Addington yesterday morning. W. J. Tomkinson was the first to work after breakfast. Breaking away from the winning post on a mile and threequarters' journey, Logan Park went away a couple of lengths in front of Surprise Journey, who had a lead of Free Advice, with Country King three lengths further back, followed by Yendome. They raced in that order over tho first circuit, in lmin 44sec, with the milo and a half covered in 3min 29sec. Logan Park had charge when the full distance was covered in 4min 2 2-ssec, the others bunchod. Awa-iti went away a couple of lengths in front of Little Victor and Kelp over a mile and a half, and he led liis companions all the way, beating them b., tho narrowest of margins, tho journey being run in 3min 27 l-ssec. The trio raced well over the concluding quarter. Locanda General was sent away 36yds in front of Ngahuia and Eose Marie over a milo and a quarter. Ho led till a furlong from home, when the others had his measure, and Eose Marie finished on well and fast to beat Ngahuia by a length, with Locanda General about half a length further- away. Erin's Fortune Pleases. Erin's Fortune stood John Mauritius and Morrison up three seconds over a mile and three-quarters. Tho first mile and a half was run in 3min 30 2-ssec, and the mare was only a couple of lengths away. Though she did not reach them before the end of the journey, run in 4min 3 2-sscc, she was doing it very easily. Kepeta Mac hit out nicely in a dash over a mile and a half, but was not out for time. Muriel de Oro was always going easily over a mile and a quarter run in 2min 56sec. Stoney going away from the two mile peg was picked up over the last mile and a half by Kreisler, the ex-Auck-lander finishing on well in 3min 24 2-usee. Great Nelson in Form. Great Nelson got a slight advantage at the start in a mile and a half run with Eose Audo and though the latter gradually decreased the gap, Great Nelson still had a length's advantage as the post was reached. Erin's Lynn did not please by tho way sic nuisiied over the concluding stages or a mile run in 2min 18sec. Stowaway gave Eut.h Logan 24vds start over the last milo and a quarter of a mile and a half, but the mare had a slight advantage when the line was crossed in 2min 55 l-ssep. Native Prince gave starts to Eileen Wood, Welcome Guy, and Nancy Bingen, over a mile and a half. In a good finish Eileen Wood and Welcome Guy finished just in front of Native Prince in 3niin ?.l 2-s:sec. Vesuvius, who has recently been operated on for throat trouble, was out doing steady work. He still makes a noise. Festival covered a mile and a quarter in 2mm 50sec, but ahe had had enough at the finish.

NOTES ON THE RACING. [.THE PRESS Special Sorvice.] ih© Summer Meeting of the Woodville District Jockey Club opened today in fine, warm weather, conditions being perfect for the racing. There were many interesting contests and one or two surpriso results, though favourites won four races. Gay C'rcst won the Bolton Handicap and Toxeuma put up a solid performance to win the Open Sprint. Gay Crest had to run the gauntlet of an enquiry instituted by the stipendiary stewards into his boring out on Bold Front at the finish, but ho survived it. There wero also one or two enquiries of minor importance into the running during the d ay, but nothing more to warrant a meeting of the Judicial Committee. The stipendiary stewards present were Messrs A. P. Wilson (chief) and B. N. Sandilands. II;. Lloyd's Riecarton stable had a good day, winning races with Gay Crest and Adelpln, while Royal Baby ran third. W. D. Moloney also won a double with Applcdore and Richbormigh. The Hurdles. Royal Flyer was prominent, in tho early running of the hurdles, but dropped back in the middle stages, lie came with a brilliant run over the last furlong to score a comfortable and very surprising win, there being only £27 on his chance. Evening ]|«?ro and Gueress were the pace-makers with Black Aero, Half Acre, Mountain Heath, and Kaokaoroa well up. Roval Flyer put in an appearance coming"to the last fence, and ortcc over came ori to beat Mountain Heath bv a length and a half. Gneress was half a length back third, • then Shining Armour, Kaokaoroa, and Whakaari. The winner was having his first rac© over fences, so his performance was impressive, especially as ho won so decisively. Ho is only a four-year-old, having been purchased as a yearling l>v 'Mr \V. H. Gaisford in Australia. Mountain Heath will win hurdle races. He was always handy and he should have been much harder to beat, for lie was very x»corly handled. Kaokaoroa hit a couple of fences and that stopped him. Shining Armour finished on from well back, . but the favourite Call Again was never sighted. A Decisive Will. Appledore, a hot favourite for the Maiden race, finished very solidly from a fair way back, to win decisively from the second favourite,, Beverage. Glider

Joie de Vt-J, and Goldsund. 1-sever-a"c' ciunu y in tlic straight, but. had , jiu eliancc of withstanding the challenge of A |i|iU:<loi'i\ who beat liiiu by a length. .loi<- ilc A"ill was six lengths away third, with I'Jlizalieth just fourth from Qucan-iu-ynii, then lOnter :hhl Viaduet. A iipledore won well. JIo has takoti ;t lung lime to show winning form, but 'now looks as ii" ho will go on with it. : j-!ever;igc hail every chance, but Joio de \ a I "got badly chopped hack coming jn(o tin- straight. Gay Crest Prevails. Th,3 .Kit'e.aitoii lepresentativ-c, Gay Crest went out a lirm favourite for the Bolton Handicap, and after being out in front most of the way, scored narrowly from tin outsider, in Bold Front. Timbridgo and (.lay Crest mndo tlici running, at a. smart: pace, from Paratoo ami Bold Front, High Falutin', in behind .L'aratoo on the rails, and Merry ]tamon tailing off. There waa no chango till the home turn, where Royal (jama | went up to the leaders. Tunbridge and | Gay Crest led into tho straight from j .Bold Front and l'aratoo, but the lastnamed received a (heck. Hold Front tackled Cay Crest, tho Jatter shifting liis ground towards (lis rival. They tin- i ished together, Gay Crest getting his! head in front at Ihe post. High Fa- j liitiu'. wlii' had faih d to get an opening j Dileiiiig the straight, linished well a. length b.'i'-k. -Men;-' Uauion was ctose t;]« foiir!!i, also travelling well. Then ,iin.' I'a-al'.'o, K aw ha hi n a., and Tuntiridgc. Gay Crest appeared a trille lucky to 1.".-, it. Bolil I'rout, and in forcing tho latter "lit he caught tiie attention of tho Judicial Stewards. After deliberation a majority verdict fa\oured no alteration in the judge's plaeings, and no action was taken against L. J. Ellis, rider of Gay Crest. High Falutin' was not very lucky entering the straight, nor was Paratoo. The performance of tin; latter need not discount his Auckland prospects. Merry Damon finished Aery solidly. He only had to come sooner to have been •very closo to the !•( siUes. A Bad Start. .Ihe io-ycar-old race did not cali for division.-, there being a sufficient number of scratching*. As a contest it was comph-t.ely ruined by a shocking start, in which more than hnlf tlio runners never got a chance. Haulbowlinc got oiT so much better than anything else that he made the pace to the straight clear of Interlocutor, then another interval to Chief Cook und lioya) Baby, with Hichborough h indy, then' All Humbug and lJed Rufus. Tho stragglers began to close up a lit'Jo entering the straight, where Koyal lJaby hit tho front, and drew clear. Hichborough ihen put in a solid run a.ad, all out, beat, Koyal Baby by a short neck. Chief Cook was three lengths back third, with Interlocutor fourth, unci then at intervals, Haulbowlinc, fit. I'oger, Esteem, und All Humbug. The winner is a brother Tenterdon, and runs in the saino colours. His win was a severe reverse for i: tick erg. He may have won in any case., for he did not get any the best of th" start, but "Wing to the wretched disnatch form ;n this rani may prove tiicky later. However, he proved himself i solid colt i under pressure, and should ( ako a hand in the decision of more important events. Chief Cook was disappointing, Avliile llaulbowline and .Interlocutor failed badly. A Good Performance. 'loxeuiiia v.as rtcponsibio iur <(. solid perioi inaneo in winuing the Open j Sprint, for which lie wa.j favourite. Toxeuma began best, but settled down in behind First Money and Cuticle, willr TJruosin ami Arrow Liml handy, then Koyal I'arado and Goshawk tailing off. First Money and Outicle led into tho str.iip,ht from Toxeuma, Limosin, and Arrow Lad. First Money scion stopped and later Liioosic weakened, but the other three joirod in a rare .struggle. Toxeuma £tii*h*d best and won by half a length from Arrow Lad, who beat Cuticle by iinlf a neck. Koyal Parade was fourth, tl'in catne Limosin, Goshawk, and First Money. Tho winner wns too good for his opponents, and stayed on well under his welter weight in a vory fast-run race. Tho run should improve Goshawk, who wont out carryinp ail unknown apprentice and £SO. Division Race. Tho Hack Sprint waa run in divisions, tho favourites respectively being Statuary and llothen. Both ran weil, hut whereas Rothen won, Statuary could only run fourth in the first lot. Tho pace was inado by Pass On and King Aero from Tahoma, Patearoa., and Adclphi. Statuary moved up on the turn, but oneo in the straight Adclphi shot out and won hy a length from Tahrmia, who heat Patearoa bv a neck. Statuary was fourth, followed hy King Hal, Pass On, and Waterspear. Tahoma was possibly a bit unlucky, hut Adolphi won too well for any excuses. San Quo; shot away with a good lead in tho second division from Kothen, Money Mint, Leyland, and Crash. .Uotheii tackled San Quex in tho straight, and won by a length ntid a half, San Quex beating Pakitere by half a length. Golden Shadow was fourth, followed by Money Mint, Leyland, and Dignified March. Rothon won as his recent form suggested, Pakitoi-o was unlucky and Golden Shadow was also not too well served. Dignified March got very badly away. An Easy Win. Haukshaw and Powa were always well placed at the head of the big field in tho hack distance event, and gave nothing a chanco of getting near thorn, ilawkshaw drew right away in the .straight, but being eased up at the tinish he allowed Pewa to run him to a length. Dainty Ways, who had been handy in the running, was three lengths back, third, and Lordliko was fourth. The last-named got a bad knock back at the half-mile and looked unlucky. Ponropa, Acmil, Fallow, and Arrowhead did host of the others. Ilawkshaw won comfortably and has improved a lot recently. Favourite Fails. Head Sera tig, a warm favourite m S tho concluding event, had every j chance but tho best ho could do was | to finish third. Te Awha led Queen's | Choice, Head Serang, Desert Song, and Kahikatoa to tho straight. Moutoa Treasury was prominent on the turn, but once in lino Kahikatoa came through and won hy a length and a half from Rory Mor, who out Head Serang out of second place by half a length. Desert Song was fourth, followed hy Moutoa Treasury, Hopwood, and Atholspear. ! I | ACCEPTANCES FOR TO-DAY. I I » j PAPATAWA HURDLES HANDICAP, Of 120 sovs. Ono mil© and a half. si'. lh. at. lb.
