dinavian descent, was born in New Zealand. The District Engineer has already investigated a complaint made by some of the men against this foreman, and considers that the foreman was justified in remonstrating with unsatisfactory workmen. _"With regard to single men being dismissed from Hawera-Matarora road, the Cabinet Unemployed Committee is of the opinion that at this time of the year, when seasonal work is, or should shortly be, available, the period of continuous employment of single men on Government relief works should bj reduced to about three months. The one hundred odd men who were discharged from the Hawea-Matarora road had all been on that work for over six months, and their average period of employment was 13 months. It was therefore decided to dispense with their services, and replace them with other men who had been out of employment for several months, and had been unable to obtain other work. Similar action is being taken on other large relief works; and I am sure you will agree that it is not equitable that some men should be kept in continuous employment on the larger relief works while others are unable to obtain work.''
