HON. JOHN BARR.
TRAMWAY BOARD'S TRIBUTE. A motion was passed by the Christchurch Tramway Board yesterday recording its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the Hon. John Barr, M.L.C., who died on Sunday. In moving the resolution, Mr E. H. Andrews (chairman) said that all knew Mr Barr as a public man, and appreciated his many great qualities. The motion was as follows: "The Board expresses its deep regret at the death on Sunday of the Hon. John Barr, M.L.C., who for many years was actively associated with the work of the Christchurcti Tramways. He became a member of the Board in 1912, and so continued until 1927. He was its deputy-chair-man from July, 1916, to July, 191S, in which year he was elected chair man, continuing in that office for three years. The Board now places on record its appreciation of his valuable services, and extends to his widow and family its sincere sympathy with them in their bereavement. '' Mr H. Pearce seconded the motion. He said Mr Barr made a very efficient chairman, and worked very hard in the interests of the Board. Mr D. Sykes said Mr Barr did all his work well. The speaker had a great respect for him. He declared that Mr Barr knew more about the labour laws than all the lawyers in New Zealand. Mrs E. R. McCombs said Mr Barr !L . a ver y wide knowledge of tramway affairs. She always respected him for the amount of time he gave to public work. Her respect for him increased when she replaced him, as she found hewas a remarkably good loser. He had written her a very helpful letter explaining the work of the Board, and no man could do more. The motion waa carried.
