HEATHCOTE NEWS.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Heathcote "Valley School Committee met, when there were present— Messrs Collins (chairman), Harvey secretary), Carter and O'Neill, and Mesdames Wakefield and Morgan. The ladies' committee reported that arrangements for the Christmas functions were well in hand. It was decided to hold the infants' Christmas tree party in the school on "Wednesday afternoon, December 17th. The headmaster reported that the dux medals for 1930 had been won by Helen Nisbct and John Morgan. The secretary was instructed to have the names of the winners placed on the honours board. The annual picnic and flower show were discussed. It was decided to buy a gramophone for use in the school. The headmaster was asked to compile a list of suitable books for the new libraries which are to be opened early in the new year. A vote of sympathy with Mr and Mrs I/eathwick, in their recent bereavement, was passed. Children's Party. In aid of funds for the Christmas tree, a children's party was held in the school, on Saturday afternoon. A very pleasant time was spent in games, competitions, and musical items. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies. Competitions were won by Murdo Smith and Jean Perkins (musical arms); Bobby Wakefield, Jenny Collins, Dudley Patterson, Warren Wakefield (lucky prizes); Rubena Reed, and Jeah Perkins (musical squares).
