SCHOOL FAIRS.

EAST CHRISTCHURCH. In aid of the school picnic funds a fair was held at the East Christchurch School on Saturday afternoon. The undoubted success of the function was due largely to the efforts of Mrs Macfarlane and her committee, to the treasurer and secretary, Mrs E. Perreau, and to Mr S. Baird, the chairman of the School Committee. The fete was organised by the School Committee and the Parents' Association, and was officially opened by Mr 11. T. Armstrong, M.P. There were numerous stalls and side-shows, and a baby slrow, which attracted many entrants, ine decorated prams and bicycles provided a gay spectacle. The results of the baby show were:— Under nine months—Mrs A. Mills (boy, tit V m r 2U? e mon^s and under 18 months — m rS t> } !i son <girl » 11 months old) 1, Mrs t <girl » 13 m °nths old) 2. Mrs vVlietter was the judsre. The stallholders were:—Cakes, Mrs 11. Ledgard and helpers; flowers, Miss J. Macfarlane and helpers; sweets, Mrs Brown, Mrs McLennan, and helpers; produce, Mr Dann, Mrs Macfarlane, Mrs Gillespie, and Miss King; work, Mesuames Christie and Ockenden: variety, Mes* dames Smith and Collier; bran-tub, Miss Green; ice-cream, Mr and Mrs Green; fruitsalad, Miss Kane; afternoon tea. Miss Wat--80 j jnd helpers; side-shows, Messrs Grant and McKenzie; talking dolls, Messrs F. and M. Brownhe. There was a display of folk-dancing by pupils of Miss Watson.
