CHRIST CHURCH TRAMWAY BOARD.—Members who were present at the first meeting of the recently elected Tramway Board yesterday afternoon. From left: Mr E. H. Andrews (who was elected chairman), Mr W. H. Williamson, Mr W. Hayward, Mr W. J. Walter, Mrs E. R. McCombs, Mr H. Pearce, Mr D. Sykes, Mr A. A. McLachlan, Mr G. T. Booth, and Mr Frank Thompson (general manager).

SIXTH INTERNATIONAL ROADS CONGRESS.—--The opening ceremony of the sixth International Roads Congress in Constitution Hall, Washington, D.C., on October 6th by Mr Henry L Stimson, Secretary of State. Sixty nations were represented. The New Zealand delegates included Mr A. Tyndall, engineer to the Main Highways Board, and Mr A. Donald " Paterson, of Christchurch.

VASES TO BE SOLD ON BEHALF OF THE UNEMPLO YED.—Two Royal Dresden china vases which have been given to the Mayor of Christchurch (Mif J. K. Archer) for sale on behalf of the unemployed. The Mayor would be glad if anyone with an expert knowledge of china would give an estimate of their value.
