ACCIDENTS.
* DIRT-TRACK RIDER. HURT. FRACTURED COLLARBONE. While riding for Canterbury in the interprovincial match with Otago at Monica Part Speedway on Saturday evening, a- .prominent local dirt-track rider, S. R. Russell, crashed, and suffered a fractured collarbone. Ho was taken to the Christchurch Hospital, but it was reported last evening that his condition was not serious. The accident occurred during the second lap of the first event of the championship races. Going into the straight, and approaching the main stand, it was observed that Russell's machine was wobbling erratically. Apparently the rider could not "straighten out," and in a short space he fell, sliding along same distance with the machine on top of him. Russell was attended on the ground, and he was later taken to the Hospital. Russell, -who is a patternmaker bv occupation, lives at 109 "Wordsworth street, Sydenham.
DEATH OF A BOY. STRUCK BY MOTOR-CAR. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM) AUCKLAND, December 7. While crossing a street near liis home, David Iludge, aged seven, of Devonporfc, was struck by a motor-car this morning. He received severe injuries to the head, and also a fractured leg, from which he died in the Auckland Hospital two hours later. FIRE VICTIM'S DEATH. ' (rRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, December 6. "Walter Gray, -who jumped from a window at the Oriental Bay fire, in which a woman lost her life on Wednesday night, died in hospital this morning. He was a Sydney accountant. SEAMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. Through falling down the ladder leading to his quarters in the New Zoaland Shipping Co.'s liner Botorua, at Lyttelton, early on Saturday evening, Charles Ashley, a lamp-trimmer, aged about 40 years, received serious injuries, including a fractured skull. He was treated on the ship by Dr. C. H. Upham, who ordered- his removal to the Christchureh Hospital. At a late hour last night the Hospital reported that Ashley was on the seriously ill list, I MOTOR MISHAPS. A collision occurred near the Ashburton Post Office on Saturday afternoon, between cars driven by Mr E. Coker, Ashburton, and Mr J. Hopwood,_ taxiproprietor, Ashburton. The right side of Mr Coker's car was damaged, and the running-board almost torn off, while & mudguard on the other car was crumpled. Mrs Coker, who accompanied Mr Coker, suffered from shock and bruises. A "baby" car driven by Margaret Ethel Collie, 100 North street, Timaru. accompanied by Miss Kathleen Ellis and Mr Elliott, Timaru, skidded in some loose shingle, and turned on to its side, on the .Main South road at Winslow, on Saturday night. The driver suffered a cut on the arm, "and received medicai attention at Ashburton. The other two passengers were unhurt.
