Crops have been seriously damaged, and railways were interrupted by washouts. Melbourne and suburbs have been seriously affected, one thousand telephones being put out of action. A horseman named O'Brien was drowned while crossing the flooded Whitehead Creek, near Seymom> Many narrow escapes have been recorded.
