Heavy downpours of rain have been recorded in many places inland. Netherbv, in the Mallee country, reports seven inches and at Kinnabulla and Deulah there were over six inches. Crops have been seriously damaged, and railways were interrupted by washouts. Melbourne and suburbs have been seriously affected, one thousand telephones being put out of action. A horseman named O'Brien was drowned while crossing the flooded Whitehead Creek, near Seymom> Many narrow escapes have been recorded. The rain caused the postpon.ejnaa.fc of the inter-State tennis matches and. the Moorieo Valley racei. THUNDERSTORMS IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. WORST FLOODS SINCE 1923. (Receive-l December 7th, 5.5 p.m.) ADELAIDE, December 7. Heavy thunderstorms are reported from the northern districts, the worst floods occurring since 1923. Railway washouts and damage to roads been reported in many places. Tbe Broken Hill express was held up lor eight hours.
