NATIONAL PEACE COUNCIL.

At the fortnightly meeting of the National Peace Council a letter '"'a ß read from the Minister for Defence in reply to a letter from the Council enquiring as to the liability of Secondary School Cadets to train under the Defence Act. The Minister said that compulsory military training had been suspended, and "service in the Secondary School Cadets is therefore on a purely voluntary basis for the time being." At the conclusion of the ordinary business the ceremony of unveiling a portrait of Mr A. "VV. Page, M.A., a member of the Council, who died in Paris, suddenly, whilst on an organising tour of the Continent under the auspices of the War Registers' International, was performed by the secretary, Mr C.
