SCHOOL COMMITTEE. Tho ordinary monthly meeting of tho North Brighton School Committee was held at tho beginning of tho •weekPresent wore, Messrs A. Floranco (chairman), S. S. Freeborn (secretary), "W. S. Buasell, A. IT. Henry, li. 11. Mahan, F. S. Norrie, L. F. Uren, and the Rev. G. K. Aitken. An apology was received from Mr D. C. Maiison. Before proceeding with tho business, tho chairman moved a motion of sympathy with tho family of tho lato Mrs Leaver and with. Mrs \V. 8. Bussell, in tho death of lier father; the motion was carried, members standing. Mr Jv. S. McKay, having completed his term as assistant master, sent in his resignation. It was decided to send a letter of thanks and appreciation to Mr McKay, and wishing him every suscess in his new work. The headmaster's report showed tho roll number as 260, with an avorage attendance of 239.4, this being a further improvement over last month. Tho Kcv. Mr Aitken and Mr Norrio reported as a visiting committee, everything being satisfactory. Mr Norrie reported as a delegate to the School Committees' Association, giving details of an interesting address delivered by Mr J. G. Poison. Arrangements wero made for tho annual Christmas tree, and prizo distribution, details being left in tho hands of Messrs Florance, Henry, Freeborn, and the headmaster. Tho Rev. G. K. Aitken and Mr Norrio were appointed a. visiting committee. Personal. Mr R. D. Martin aad family liavo 'akeii up residenco at North Beach, Miss Martin having begun business in the district. Star of New Brighton Tont. Sister D. Hull (Chief Ruler) presided over a meeting of tho Star of New Brighton Tent, held in tho Lodge room, Bowhill road, on Tuesday evening. Sick pay was passed to one member. Bro. Leaver gavo a detailed report of the annual meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Council. A clearance to the Ashburton Tent was granted to Brother E. Burn. Tho Chief Ruler rcportod on an official visit paid to tho Philipson Tent, and made complimentary reference to tho manner in which that Tent conducted tho initiation ceremony. "Sunshine" Tont. A meeting of the Sunshine Juvenile Eechabito Tent was held in. tho Peace Memorial Hall on Tuesday evening. Chief Ruler (Bro. Wilson Brown) presided. Correspondence was received from the Canterbury Band of Hope Union, giving details of tho annual picnic, to be held in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens on December (3th, and from tho Philipson Tent acknowledging tho Tent's letter of congratulations. A report was received of the concert given by the Pride of Lin wood Juvenile Tent, and it was decided to send a letter of thanks to this Tent for the splendid entertainment provided. It was decided to hold the Christmas social on Tuesday, December 36th. Two new members were initiated. At the conclusion of the business, games wcro played. Salo of Property at. North Boach. A. sale of considerable importance took place this week, the Ozone Cafo and several houses on tho adjoining sections changing ownership, it is the intention of the purchaser to make extensive improvements on tho vacant sections including Miniature Golf Links, with an entrance from tho Esplanade! New Koad. The New Brighton Borough Council has this week completed the formation of a new road connecting Berry street with Jubilee avenue. A splendid roadway has been made, which should bring the residents of Jubilee avenue half a mile nearer the business portion of North Beach, besides providing them with a quicker access to the beach. Anglican Church. The service on Sunday evening next is to be a, memorial service to the-late
Mrs E. A. M. Leaver, and will bo held in the Memorial Hal]. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Tremayno Curnow, vicar of St. Faith's, and will at 7.1S p.m. to enable members of other., churches to attend after their ovrn services. Invitations to attend have been issued to the Women's Christian Tempcranco Union, the members of the North Beach Baptist Church, and others interested. Tennis. The North Beach School tennis team met the Burwood School team in the fourth round of the Primary Schools' tennis competition. Burwood won by 9 seta to 3. The results were (North Beach names first) Boys' Singles—T. Lilley 1, lost to T\ Ullrich 6; I. Willmotfc 5, beat R. Kerr 4 ■ b. Meier 5, lost to G. Cormack 6; W Coburn 5, lost to H. Walker 6.
