Owing to tlio small cargoes arriving from overseas, some of the overseas ships are transhipping South Island cargo ot Welling ton. The Westmoreland recently transhipped New York cargo for Lyttelton and Dunedin, and this weelc the Port Hunter transshipped New York cargo for the same ports The Union Co.'s Waipiata. which is due at Lyttelton to-morrow from Wellington, brings a large quantity of transhipments, ex the Port .Hunter and Kartigi. 1 A WOOL RACE ? Three big liners are to sail from New Zen land ports on January 3rd with wool for London, and already there is some spei ,„l a Hon as to their probable performances.
