SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Otago and Canterbury broadsiders will race at Monica Park to night tor the championship o! the South Island. Eliminating heats of three starters will decided the fastest man in each provincial team, and the final will be fought out by the two winners. The interprovincial contest, Canterbury v. Otago, will provide nine special match races from a rolling start, two riders from each province starting in every match. From the finalists in to-night's racing and in further contests between the provinces the selector will pick the New Zealand team to meet the Englishmen. Every qualified dirt-track rider is keen for this honour, so broadsiding patrons will gee real speed trials to-night. Reserve plans ore at Lunge's, and after one o'clock to-day at Monica telephone 31-202.
