BOROUGH COUNCILS

RANGIORA. The Rangiora Borough Council met lasfc evening l . Present were the Mayor (Mr C. S. Ayors), Crs. J. Lindon, R. R. Gillanders, R. H. Bailey, C. "W. Tyler, H. K. Ivippenberger, W. Horrell, F. E. Martyn, and "W. Carson Wilson. The Mayor, reporting on the unemployment in the town, said that he had been, waited on by a large number of men requesting that the Council should take steps to find work them over the present slack time. The Mayor also reported that the Park T£ eill T^ r * a * a^es had been completed, and that the Park Gates Committee had handed them over to the Council. Messrs C. Buxton and Co., brokers, o£ Wellington, wrote that their firm was in a position to find loan moneys on very advantageous terms. The letter was received, and referred to the Finance Committoc. Messrs Helmore and van Asch applied on behalf of Mr E. D . Wallace tor permission to apply to the Valuer-General for a reduction of the assessment o£ his property. The application, was granted.

The secretary of the Christchurch Freo Ambulance Society wrote asking permission to allow their superintendent to address the Council on the work of the Society. This was f granted, 4s ajso was a similar request from the St. John Ambulance Association. The Oxford County Council wrote asking the support of the Council in urging the Hospital Board to keep down expenses as much as possible during the present stringent times. It was decided to give the Council's support to the matter The clerk reported that the district fund account was in debt to the extent of £2831 15s 3d. The electric fund was in credit to the amount of £1071 : 16s, and the sewer loan was also in credit £2076 lis 9d. The Council went into committee to consider tenders for electrical equipment, and for kerbing and channelling, and also for the leaso of the Town Hall.
