ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.

WORK OF THE WEEK. During the week calls on the St. John Free Ambulance Service have been very frequent and up to 6 p.m. yesterday twenty-three cases received first-aid attention. The greater number of these cases were transported to hospitals, and, on Thursday alone, the lree ambulance received six calls. Of the week's total, eight calls were 1 received to street or road accidents in different parts of the City and surrounding districts. The remaining cases were mostly medical, for transport from home to hospital. Two unsolicited donations were handed to the attendants. Divisional Notes. The Christchurch Nursing Division held its usual meeting on Monday evening at the Brigade rooms, in Gloucester street. The Lady Superintendent presided, and after the business of the evening members were occupied in first-aid practice and roller bandaging. One nurse reported having rendered first-aid in the case ot a. street accident. Members of the Selwyn Nursing Division were in full attendance at the Brigade rooms on Tuesday evening, where they took an active part in entertaining the ambulance cadets of their Division, on the occasion of the annual "break-up." A large number of the parents and friends were present, and songs, folk-dancing, and games were indulged in. The cadet which took part in the inter-district competitions, on Labour Day, gave an exhibition in first-aid work, which reflected great credit on Miss Biggs, who has acted as instructor. At the close of the meeting, Mrs Bishop presented prizes which were awarded for attendance and recruiting of new members. A supper was provided and served by members ot the Nursing Division, and the meeting closed with "Auld Lang Syno." The usual weekly meeting of the Christchurch Men's Division was held in the Brigade rooms on Wednesday evening. Superintendent W. Wootton was in charge and a full attendance was recorded. Mr 6. L. Slevwright was admitted as a member of the Division, and after the formal business of the evening, Mr F. Rudd, Corps superintendent, gave an interesting lecture on first-aid, and included a general revision of the year's work. At the conclusion of the lecture, Mr ll, 'dd was accorded a vote of thanks. The following members were detailed ror public duty at Monica Park broadsiding, this evening: First-Officer AV. Palmer and Private T. Davies. There is still plenty of interesting work for new men who wish to become members of this Division, and Superintendent VVootten extends a public invitation to all interested to attend at the Brigade rooms in Gloucester street on Wedneiday evenings at 7.30 o'clock. The following nursing sisters have been detailed for public duty with the Free Ambulance Service during the following week: Mesdames Mackwell, Cordy, Gay, McNeill, Richardson, and Leech, and Misses Shirley Ferguson, and Conway.
