THEATRE ROYAL.
"THE GAY NINETIES." To-day and to-morrow morning's special matinee will see the close of "Alf'B Button." On Saturday afternoon, at tho matineo, a different typo of talking picture will bo screened, entitled "Tho Clay Nineties," which is really a film adaptation of the evergreen musical comedy "I/loradora.'' In "Tho Gay Nineties" the cycle of fashions hae returned to the period when the girls were dressed in laces and plumes. As yet they havo not been accepted, hut slowly the pendulum is swinging back to the type of dross expressing tho more feminine mood. Already tho long gloves have been adopted, along with the long skirts and three-quarter length sleeves. Tho hair is also being worn in chignons in place of the boyish bob. The small waistline in also being glimpsed in some of the new lines, as is the bustle and pepluin effect. From Paris rumours are heard of the vogue for modest bathing suits and large hats. At the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios, too, tho girls have been wearing plumes in their hats and carrying lacy parasols. In this instance, however, they were wearing costumes for "Tho Gay Nineties/ 1 which is Marion Davies's newest all-talking picture*. From bathing suits to street dresses, from afternoon frocks to elaborate evening gowns, these style* worn by Miss Davies and her feminine supporting cast reveal lines that are atarfclingly near the modern vogue. Besides Miss Davies, the cast includes Lawrence Gray, Walter Catlctt, Nance O'Neill, Jed Prouty, Bam Hardy, and Vivian Oakland.
