to the Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening. Mr Bretherton stated that the Association was taking every measure possible to see that its work was ably carried on. It did much of its work free, attending sports meetings and gatherings without reward. If it ceased attending those meetings, the people would have to pay, either by fees or by rates. The acting-president (Mr A. O. Wilkinson): The Association, I take it, has
already been assured of the support of this Chamber. Mr Bretherton said that such an assurance had been given. His report was adopted.
