CAPTURED MISSIONARIES.
ATTBMPT AT RESCUE BY CHINESE TROOPS. (TJKITXD PRESS AFSOCIATIOK —BY ELECTRIC TBLEORAPH—COPYSIOHT.) (Received December 3rd, 10.30 p.m.) SHANGHAI, December 3. Troops are leaving Paotouchen in an attempt to rescue Mrs Hayward and Miss Gonior^al. Foreign missionaries captured and not released in China now total 24. Government troops who were fighting Communists at Honan in an attempt to rescue Nelson, an American, and Tvedt, a Swede, wore defeated. Emissaries to the Communist camp wore not allowed to return. The Communists have occupied Changteh, in Hunan. Foreigners are believed to have been evacuated. Ships have been fired on by Communists on tlio Yangtze.
