In his "Brides and Bridals,'' Jeaffreson states that the modern honeymoon trip had its birth in the last days ot George 11., and became a recognised bridal institution in the earlier years of George lll.'s reign. Many _ years elapsed before modest gentlefolk in the middle rank of life adopted the custom from their betters. The change of usage was, however, so agreeable to lovers of both sexes that the new fashion yearly became more general.
