LEES VALLEY.

TO THE XDITOB OF THE. VB.ESS. air,—Some months ago at a meeting of Councillors and settlers regarding bridges in Lees Valley, Mr Wilkinson stated that thero was no community of interest between ratepayers of the counties and the settlers. As a proof •f this, some weeks ago the local Farmers' Uniou decided to hold a meeting with a view to getting a revaluation of thesr properties. The meeting date was undecided, but it was to be held some time during the next three months; actually it was held a few weeks ago. It was decided to have the _ county .revalued and the county chairman stated that the rates would still have to be paid - to • carry on, an answer I expected. To this meeting no settlers wqre invited; certainly they do not belong to the r armefs' TTnioji, b'ufc aJ[ farmers are not Unionists. . Recently a local" lodge * Held its annual picnic and all the, trades people Bad * day off, but very few of the

settlers knew of this outing. Of course wo cannot allbe lodge members. Lately the foundation stone of the Oxford Town Hall was well and truly laic!. Very few settlers knew of this function or were invited, yet I think we have pxit our share into the possibility of that hall, while before we came here the land wo lease paid rates toward this end. Compare this with tho occasion when tho foundation stone of ona of tho local stores was laid earlier in the year, when all were invited. Last Sunday week there was a very severe galo with rain and snow and settlers had fresh shorn sheep to faco this storm. Ido not think there were any enquiries how the stock fared, but all stock and wool go through Oxford ] to be sold and all stores and other necessities for running those places come through Oxford. _ _ Finally, there are many religious Hocks in Oxford, both plain and fancy, hut rarely do their shepherds visit. ' us. There is no Sunday beyond the ! bridge on tho Lees Valley side, so I suppose we arc beyond redemption.Yours, etc., SOLDIER SETTLER. Lees Valley, December Ist, 1930. f
