ADDINGTON MARKET.

FAT CATTLE EASIER. FAT SHEEP IMPROVE. ;BJ otrn commercial, BDITCE.) At Addin.u'ton yesterday there were declines in tlio prices lor fat cattle, storo sheep, and fat i>ij?s, and an increase in the values being paid for fat fcheep. It was tho Jirst sale uf (ho fci-a;n.'n at which a freezing works buyer has operated for export, and the first sale which included store lambs. Tho store shoep sa.lc was a dull one, and there was not a KieuL dvi:l of enquiry at any stage it. Values were easier by Is and up to Is Gd a head in many cases. The fat lamb sale was a steady one, due in part to the operations of one export buyer. There was no quotable change in values to record, and Uie average price per pound ranged from 7id to rid. Fat sheep were in short supply, and their (sale was a spirited one. Values for wethers advanced by Is a head, and those for ewes as much as 2s a head. The fat catilo sale was a disappointing one throughout, with the exception of one stage, when the North Island consignment—a very prime line—sold at rates which were very littlo below those ruling at the last auction. The average decline over the whole sale was i,l to XI JOs a head for all classes. The fat pigs .sold at rates which were a little below those ruling last week, that being especially tho case in the porkers' section.

STOKE SHEEP. Consignments of wethers from the Chatham Islands and Blenheim again helped to swell the entries in the store sheep pens, though tho over-all yarding was scarcely as big as it was last week. There was the usual wide range of quality, and select lines were very few and far between. The attendance of farmers was a moderate one, but once again tho buying power was very limited, there being only a small handful of buyers who wanted sheen. The result was that auctioneers had a difficult time in getting any lesponse, and the market was delinitely weaker, prices coming back from Is to Is bd a head, with quite a few* passings. Some of the sheep changed hands appeared to be u little on tho dear fide, but on the other hand there wore several quite good considering the state of the market. Tlio first pen ot store lambs was offered this season. They were trom the Chatham Islands, and sold at 10 s ] Od. Values were; Good four and six-tooth Romney wetheru. Los •'»<?

FAT LAMBS.

Tho yarding of fnt Jambs was a large one, the total entered being 880, as compared with 4iio at last week's market. The quality generally was good, and the sale was an interesting ono throughout. The principal fea» jure was the operation of one freezing works buyer, and his participation was a factor in maintaining the sale at a fairly firm level. There was little change on tho rates of last week, although the sale was a shade weaker at times. The pr.ces ruling were equivalent to from 73d per pound to BJd per pound in a few enses, anil an average of about 8d per pound. The top price was 27s 4d, which was paid for seven sold on account of W. W. Carruthers (Doric).

The market opened a a slight advance, and continued with a firm-: ing tendency until the finish, the shorte yarding being responsible. The improvement in prices amounted to about 2s a head for ewes and Is a head for wethers. One 01 the freezing works operators purchased a *c w small pens of wethers. FAT CATTLE. Tho entry of fat cattle whs 430 head. as compared with '525 at last week's market, hut ther« was « bis falling off in the geneml quality of tho entry. One of the features of the market was the reappearance of North Island vendors. There was the ono line only, but it was a big one, and especially prime. There wore 41 steers on account of Alec. Williams (St. Lawrence Station, Palmerston North), and they brought from £l7 12s Cd to £22 2s 0(1, and recorded tho splendid average of .£l9 10s a head. When tho slackness 6f the market generally is taken into consideration that average must be acknowledged to be a very satisfactory one, and it is doubtful whether it would have been bettered ut the sale of last week. Of the quality of the market as a whole there is very little that can bo said of a favourable nature, as there was a very big proportion of secondary and inferior sorts, especially in the section for rows. The sale opened with, rates on a lower basis than that ruling last week, and over an irregular market thore was a general easing of X 1 to 10s for all sorts. The drop was not quite so pronounced in the ease of the best class of beef in tho market, but even then prices did not quite reach those ruling last week. The top price for steers was ±'22 7s Gd, secured for four sold on account of W. Leonardo (Lc Bon's Bay). The top price for heifers was £l6 2s 6d, secured "for two sold ou account of Kinloch Estate (Little River). The top prico for cows was sectired by Peter Anderson (Stirling), who Fold three at .€l4 12s Gd. Best medium-weight beef made from 41s to 45s 6d per 100 pounds, heavy beef made from 33s to 375, cow beef from 34s to 3Ss. secondary beef from Cd to 335, and rough down to 245.
