CHRISTIAN SCIENCE.

TO THT3 EDITOR Oy THE PRESS Sir,—The purpose of my letters has been to protect your readers from the acceptance of wrong conceptions concerning the teaching and practice of Christian Science, which adopts and adheres solely to the healing method taught and practised by Christ Josub. As previously indicated, I do not propose to discuss materia medica, but Air Curnow is unjust to Mrs Eddy when he savs she speaks of it "contemptuously, " aa such an attitude towards any honest attempt to help mankind is entirely foreign to her nature His attempt to reduce Christian Science practice to an absurdity applies equally to the curative methods which h<> follows, for I would remind your readers again that physical scientists proclaim the nothingness of matter, in fact, as has been sa:'d, they ''explain matter by explaining it away." Christian Scientists are concerned about "getting rid of" mortal mind, or tho mind of the flesh, with its sin, disease, and death, because with Paul they recognise it to bo "enm.'ty against God," and they desire to have that mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."— Yours, etc., CUTHBERT S. BOOTH, Christian Hoienoe Committo® on Publication. December 2nd, 1930.

TO THX EDITOB. OT Tff* Sir, —J have been much interested ill the letters for and against Christian Science appearing lately in your paper. Though not wanting to intrude in the debate between your two contributors, a point has been raised by Mr Booth which is demonstrably incorrect, but which might be allowed to pass by anybody who had not read the whole of * Mary Baker Eddy's work. I believe an American ex-Senator, who was preaching on behalf of the Christian Science Church two years ago also made the same mis-statement, which is, in effect, that the great scientists had recently demonstrated that all matter was composed of electrons consisting of positive and negative atoms ol' electricity, and that Mary Baker Eddy's treatises on the unreality of matter, written fifty years ago, and then laughed at, were now being confirmed by the foremost scientists. Now, on page 293, "Science of Health nnd Key to the Scriptures," this is what is said regarding electricity: "Electricity is not a vital fluid, but the least material form of human consciousness—the material mindlessness which formß no link between matter and mind, and which destroys itself." If Mr Booth's claim had been true,

it would have been arresting, but I am convinced that ho ha 3 no wish to maintain any claims which are demonstrablv erroneous, so am sure lie will pardon this intrusion.—Yours, etc., ONLOOKER. . Decomber Ist, ID3O.
