Madras suffered severely from one of tho fiercest cyclones it lias experienced in the past sixty years. Hie storm, which swept the city, caused immense havoc. An oil tanker was driven aground, three Europeans were drowned, many hutp were do stroyed. city offices collapsed, the eleo tr lc light supply was disorganisedj and all telegraph lines cams down.
