LICENSING REFORM ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. LITTLE ACTIVITY REPORTED. [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, December 2. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Licensing Reform Association was held yesterday, the Rev. P. T. Williams presiding. The report said the Association was fortunate, upon the retirement of Bishop Williams, in securing the Rev. P. T. Williams as his successor to the office of Dominion president. Early in the year it was made clear by the Government that it was determined not to deal with licensing legislation during the session just past. Requests had been made by the associated clubs that the organisation should tako active steps immediately upon the return of the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, to endeavour to induce the Government to bring down a Licensing Bill next session. Although, owing to the insuperable barrier created by the failure of the Parliamentary machinery to function on licensing matters, little activity could be reported during the past year, the executive trusted that their patience would be rewarded by the opportunity being offered in the near future to enable the organisation to take active steps towards achieving those objects of licensing reform so greatly to be desired. Officers were elected as follows: — Dominion president, the Rev. P. T. Williams; vice-president, Mr D. M. Findlay; executive, the Rev. E. M. Cowie, Messrs L. O. H. Tripp, M. A. Carr, W. Perry, J. F. Atkins, J. McDonald, A. Young, D. Madden, and R. A. Armstrong (Dominion secretary).
