AUSTRALIAN BOWLERS' TOUR. (Received December 2nd, 10.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 2. Several rinks of Australian bowlers are preparing to visit New Zealand for the bowling carnival which will opea at Auckland in January. FELLED BY IRON BAR. SYDNEY, December 2. A man named John Roset was felled by an iron bar and kicked into unconsciousness in the suburb of Wavcrley. The police blame the meat strikers, as Roset works at his brother's butchery.
ESCAPEES RECAPTURED. SYDNEY, December 2. The two men who escaped from the police patrol van on November 15th liave both been recaptured. One, Jo:seph Schmidt, a notorious criminal, was caught in a cave at Hurstville. He made another bid for freedom, leaping over the heads of the police, but was caught, and, ironically enough, tr.ken back to gaol in the same van from which he made his cunning getaway, by removing the floor-boards. This time, however, the floor was of steel.
ASSOUAN DAM CONTRACT. (Received December 2nd, 7.10 p.m.) CAIRO, December 1. The contract for the completion of the Assouan d.:m has been awarded to Topham, Jones, Eailton, Limited, of London. AUSTRALIAN SCULLER'S VISIT. (Received December 2nd, 10.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 2. W. R. Scott, the Australian amateur sculling champion, has accepted an invitation to compete at tho Wangunui regatta in February, also in the champion sculls at Wellington. He will probably visit Auckland.
