VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE.

NEW ZEALANDERS AT THE INSTITUTE. (raoie cur ovs cobsssfokdext.) LONDON, October 23. A few days before he sailed on his return voyage Dr. J. Macmillan Brown, Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, visited the National Institute of Industrial Psychology. After a talk with the Director, Dr. Charles S. Myers, he was shown over the laboratory, and the apparatus used in vocational guidance and selection testing was explained to him. Miss A. M. Betham, Principal, Wellington Girls' College, attended a teachers' demonstration at the Institute. Two films. were shown, illustrating the Institute's work in the industrial and vocational guidance fields, and a short lecture delivered on the testing and fol-low-up of six hundred young people who have been advised by the Institute. The results already show the wisdom of potting the round peg in a hole that is not merely round, but of suitable size. They are throwing much light on the difficult problem of preventing misfits. The work of Dr. Myers is of a thoroughly practical nature. It has nothing to do with psychic research or "spookishness." Dr. Myers was for long director of the psychological laboratory at Cambridge University. He is now applying to the problems of everyday life the fruits or his wide experience, as well as the findings of the Industrial Health Research Board, and many Continental wcaiioa*! laboratories.
