* DROVE CAR BACKWARDS. Thinking that it was permissible to do so, Joseph Hetherington recently drove his car backwards along Colombo street from Armagh street to Minson'a shop. In tho Magistrate's Court yesterday Hetherington was charged with driving a car backwards for a greater distance thau was requisite for tho purpose of safety or for turning. Sir H. Macintosh, Chief 'lra(Be Inspector, slid that defendant had backed his car along Colombo street from Armagh street to iUinson's shop. The defendant said that he thought it war. all right to back his car so long as ho went in the same direction as the stream of traffic. He had been told to back his car for a long distance when he was tested for liis driver's license, but that was not in the town. A fine of 10s nnd costs was imposed by Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.
