THREE LIVES LOST. CAR BEYOND CONTROL. (rttias ABBOCIA.TIOB TKMGaiii.) TE AWAMCTU, December 1. A motoring accident on Saturday ovening caused the instantaneous death of the driver and the subsequent death of two passengers in the hospital, as well as severe injuries to one of the others. | The car was travelling towards Arapuni. When about a mile beyond Kihikihi, the driver swerved to pass a vehicle standing on the roadside. Apparentljy he lost control, going very wide, and then turning sharply back to the road again. Not recovering, the vehicle ran up the side of a slight embankment and overturned, finallv coming to a standstill some distanoo along the road, and racinp the opposite way to its original direction. The driver and six occupants, all Maoris, were thrown out. Dead. Tommy Williams, aged 30, killed instantly. He was driving the car. Kenny Williams, aged six, died in hospital. Henry Warren, aged 46, died in hospital. • Injured. Huia Edwards, aged 38, severe concussion. The other three were injured, but, after treatment by a doctor, were removed to their homes. The car was considerably damaged. At the inquest, which was opened yesterday, a Maori witness deposed that he had spent the afternoon with the driver. They had been in hotels, but he considered the driver was sober. One of the occupants of the car said they had drinks at the Kihisihi Hotel a few minutes before the accident. He thought the pace was fast, and just before the accident heard one of the passengers in the back seat complain about the speed. He personally was frightened at the specd_ of the car. The inquest was adjourned. MOTORIST DROWNED. (.T2XSS ASSOCIATION TZLBORMI.) DUNEDLN, December 1. While motoring to Christchurch to attend his brother's funeral, Harry Bradwell, a printer, of Lawrenoe, was drowned in a creek a miJo north of Palmerston early this morning. From the meagre details available it appears that a car driven by Colin Goodlit, of Lawrenoe, with Bradwell and a woman as passengers, ran into the creek and capsized. Goodlit was not serious'v injured, but was sent to hospital in a semi-conscious condition. The woman was uninjured. MECHANIC INJURED. (PBESB ASSOCIATION T»LSOBAIf.) AUCKLAND, December 1. A motor mechanic, William Simmonds, aged 21, of Onehunga, was seriously injured and sl companion had a narrow escape from injury when a racing car travelling at 80 miles an hour capsized at Henning's speedway, Mangere, about six o'clock to-night. The injured man was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he underwent an operation. His condition is very serious. The car somersaulted twice.
