Tho Government motor-ship Maui Pomare is expected at Ihinedm from Niue Island direct on Thursday afternoon, and she will then resume her runuing in the Island trade. Following an extensive overhaul of hor engines, tho vessel left Wellington on a trial trip to tho Islands on November lltli, and she lias since visited Niuo and then Samoa, returning to Niue where an unsuccessful endeavourwas ' liiiido' to load a shipment or bananas in a strong gale. According to her schedule the Main Pomare will niako Auckland her lastport of call in New Zealand, and she will leavo from there on each trip lor Niue Island ami Apia, returning via Ijytteltou and "Wellington, and thenco Auckland. On every second trip she will mato Dunediu her first port of call in New Zealand, then travelling up tho coast, calling at Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland.
Engines Burin tog Well. Reports concerning the vessel's trial trip indicate that tho engines have been running well and that no trouble has been experienced She lias a cargo of 7400 cases of bananas for New Zealand from Samoa; but it proved quite impossible to load at Niuo owing to a westerly gale which made tho roadstead unworkable. Niue Natives' IjOss. As a result, a large quantity of bananas had to be left 011 tho island, and tho nativo growers will experience a dead loss on them. On arriving olt Niuo, tlie vessel had to seek shelter on tho eastern side of the island. During an attempt to pick up passengers, two native surf-boats wcro lost.
