A loud noise proceeding from the rear of the Council Chamber threatened to upset the even tenor of the unemployment conference yesterday morning, until the Town Clerk (Mr JS. Neville) called to the carpenters to transfer their operations to another part of the building. Thev moved, but to the front of the building, and the hammering commenced again ■with renewed vigour.
