MINIATURE TOURIST TROPHY RACE. EVENT AT ROLLESTON. Although it did not bear much rciiem bianco to the famoua Tourist Trophy rac< held every year on the Isle of Man, thi first miniaturs Tourist Trophy race organ ised by the Pioneer Sports Club, held ii a padclock-fct KoUeaton on Saturday after noon, provided good sport for the entrant! and plenty of thrills for the spectators. The course was marked out by two linea o flag« between which tho riders had to go It was approximately seven-tenths of a nnli round. It waa mado very tortuous, first t< test the skill of the riders, and second fr< that too great a speed could not be at tained. Thus if there was & crash it wai unlikely that the rider would get hurt. Thi wisdom oi this action was proved during the afternoon, for there were plenty o spills, but no on® was injured. In thi pieliminary heats, competitors vere re quirea to do three Japs, and two laps ir the semi-finals and finals. To prevent thf possibility of speeding on the way out tc tho course, an official car was in the lead and any prospective competitor who passed thia wao to be disqualified from starting. Iscbody was disqualified from this cause. There were two classos, a junior, up to 85C c.c., and a senior, up to 500 c.c. Two men were sent way in each heat, while in tho finals, to avoid a bye, the thrco remaining compotitors were sent away together. The results were a3 follows: SENIOR. First Heat—S. \Y. Cunningham (ArieJ) I, I). S, Anderson (Scott) 2. Time, 6min 0 4-saec. Both rode very steadily, but Cunningham got a betler start, and Anderson w.va not able to catch him. xr S «? n A A. Bradshaw (U.S.A.) 2. Time, 4min 64sec Hawkings led ail tho way and ootuied to be the hotter rider. Fourth Heat—S. L. Ogdea (Ariel) 1 H K Fowler (Triumph) 2. Time, imin sWec! i?cv»ler hung on to a rather obstreperous mount very well, but retired after a crash at the end of the second lap. iifth Heat—W. K. Mulholland (Ariel) j G. Brown (A.J.S.) 2. Time was noi taken! as isrown twice cut a corner, eUminann" several yards of the course, and til* race was Stopped at the end of the second lan faixth Heat—T. K. McClt.ary (Ariel) 1 \ D. Kane (Norton) 2. Time, 4min 60sec! i.cClcary was fast and steady, while Kane tallowed in a succession of hectic wobbles. Semi-finals. Fu-St Heat—Hawkings (Ariel) l, Cunningham (Ariel) 2. Time, Srnin 7 3-ssec. The two riders were neck and neck for the first Jap. Then Hawkinga got the load, and Cunningham, in endeavouring; to catch him foil and retired. ' Second, Heat—Pointer (Ariel) 1, Muiholland (Ariel) 2. Time, 3min 9 4-Ssec. This was one of the most interesting events of the afternoon and was won by a few yards onlv Third Heat—McCleary (Ariel) J, (Ariel) 2. Time, 3min 2sec. Ogden "was leading until delayed by a crash, wlien McCloary flashed past, but even then there was only a few yards difference at the finish. Final. McCleary (Ariel) .. .. _ 1 1 Hawkings (Ariel) .. 77 2 Painter (Ariel) .. .. .. 3 Time, 2min 58 2-ssec. McCleary got a bad start, but set off in hot pursuit and had caught Painter before tn° end of the first lap. At the beginning of the second lap he passed Hawkings and a great duel between the two of them resulted in McCleary winning by a few yards" JUNIOR. First Heat—C. 1,. Moffalt (Velocette) 1 it. Brookes (A.J.S.) 2. Brookes retired anci two laps only were run. Second Heat—E. J. Bradshaw (B SA ) I J:- „ A _- Smi * h <°: K - Supreme) 2. Time,' 4min oo 2-ssec. Bradshaw was fast "and steady, vhile Smith was rather eccentric and was delayed by tv,*o falls. Third Heat—R. A. Carpenter (A Js \ i f,- W - Hockley (Velocette) 2. Time," 4min 4-f.ce. Ihis »i« « very close and excitimr event. Final. Rradchaw (8.5.A.) .. I Carpenter (A.J.S.) .. 0 Moffatt (Velocette) 3 Time, 3min 6sec. Bradshaw and Carpenter had & magnificent duel, Bradshaw gaming on the corr.fts, and Carpenter i n (he straights pcr.lcr got the load in the last few yards but then missed a. flag.
