ARTHURS PASS.
NEW CAMPING GROUND. CHAIRMAN HOPEFUL OF GRANT. After conferring with the Kailway Department at Christchurch, the chairman of the Arthur's Pass National Park Board of Control (Mr W. Stewart) is very hopeful that the Board will bo granted a camping ground near the Arthur's Pass station, between the ruilway subway and the present hostel. The grant has yefc to be officially authorised by the Department from Wellington. The ground will comprise tho whole of the area between the subway and the hostel, except one portion which has been privately leased. The Board hopes to erect shelters and fireplaces and possibly to 6et out a rock garden and plant a sheltering belt of trees. This work will be put in hand probably as soon as the Railway Department's decision is known—it is hoped, in timo for the Christmas camping season. Work on New Tracks. Mr St-ewart has been notified that Mr James McKay expects to begin surveying the new tracks as soon as all the snow is clear, probably within the next fortnight. It is not generally known that aclause in the \Vashing-Up Bill, recently passed by Parliament, vests the whole of the Arthur's Pass town site in the control of the Board, with rights of lease. The Board expects to derive a substantial part of its revenue from the leasing of cottage sites. Tho Board will shortly hold ft meeting to arrange these leases and to decide what improvements it will make to tho camping ground, if that is granted.
