BAND CONCERT. To-morrow afternoon at 2.45 the Christchurch Scottish Society's Pipe Band Will play a programme of music on the Pier Rotunda. This band is the champion pipe band of New Zealand, having won the right to stylo itself thus at the dominion, championships last year. Fire Brigade. The members of the lodftX Volunteer JTire Brigade are practising hard in preparation for the triangular tournament botween the I/yttelton, New Brighton, and Sumner Brigades, to be hold at Lyttelton next Saturday. This competition is held twice a year, and was held previously this year on October 10th at New Brighton. The local Brigade will be represented by Brigadesmen J. and E. O'Neill, H. Lawson, J. Reid, W. Noonan, and 11. Clarke.

Bowling. The draw for the third round of the championship singles is as follows: — H. J. Williams, a bye. J. H. Thomas v. E. Peek. J. Wilson v. C. N. Forrest. J. F. Menzies v. H. Stoneman or 11. This afternoon members of the Sumner Tennis Club will travel by car to Rangiora, where they will be the guests Of the Rangiora Club. The following ( have been selected:-—Miss N. Bishop, Mrs C. L. A fair entry has been received, and the crews Will bo selected this afternoon. Seamen's Institute. An entertainment in aid of the Seamen's Institute will be given next Tuesday in All Saiilts' Sunday Schoolroom. A feature of the programme will be a play written by Miss Lettie Gill, of Christchurch, While the performers will be well-known amateurs, having taken part in many similar entertainments for church and other deserving causes. Rcdcliflfs School, to be held in the school grounds this afternoon. Tho opening will bo at 2.30 p.m. and will be performed bv tho Mayor (Mr W. 11. Nicholson). The organisers of the many Btalls and side-shows, who have been working hard for some weeks to make the function a success, are:—Work stall, Mrs 11. W. Harris; cakes, Mrs Hulston; produce, Mrs R. Simpson; sweets, Mrs F. C. Pratt; ten-room, Mr P. Woods; side-shows, Mr Walters and helpers. Cricket. The boys' cricket team (sixth grade) played against Christ's College at Sumner, the scores being:—Christ's College 108 (Anderson .12, Rutherford 23), Sumner 82 (It. Shand 12, Stevens 10). Rutherford took five for 20 for Sumner. Good Templars. The weekly meeting of the Sumner Pride branch was held, when Bro. T. Turland, C.T., presided over a good attendance. On behalf of the Temple, the S.J.W. welcomed the visitors, who included Mrs Harvey, Mrß E. R. McCombs, and Miss P. McCombs. Mrs McCombs expressed her pleasuro at being present, and said that slio had noticed the fine work that was being carried out by the She wishod the members the best of luok in the combined sports this afternoon, and concluded her remarks with a short address on tho progress of Christchurch. Dance Recital. To augment the school funds a greatly appreciated dance recital was given by Miss Edmonds's pupils in the Toivn Hall. The programme comprised songs, skipping dances, ballets, and every variation of dancing.
