RECEPTION AT SOCKBURN. BIG GATHERING EXPECTED. * ! Complete arrangements have been made by the Canterbury Aero Club, in conjunction with the Wigram Aerodrome authorities, for the official reception at Sockburn this afternoon to Mr Oscar Garden, in honour of his solo flight from England to AustraliaIt is hoped that country people motoring to the aerodrome will avoid using Riecarton road, in order to save congestion by adding to the stream ot traffic from the City. Two entrances to the grounds will be in use. The one nearer the City is tho main gateway to the Canterbury Aero Club's grounds, and cyclists and pedestrians will be admitted tlieicAbout 200 yards beyond it is the main entrance to the digram Aerodrome grounds, which will be used for admitting motorists. Special trams will run to and Iroro the City. . ' The parking of cars in the grounds ivill be free, but a charge of Is admission for adults will be made, children being allowed i" free. The whole of tho net takings will be presented to Mr Garden as a donation from the people ot Canterbury. Tne gates will be open at 2 p.m., and during the period in which tho public are awaiting the arrival of Mr Garden, an exhibition of flying will be given. The aviator, who will fly from Wellington in the Moth aeroplane in which he made the long flight, will be met over Kaiapoi at 3 p.m. by an escort of aeroplanes from the Wigram Aerodrome and the Canterbury Aero Club's hangar. They are expected to arrive at Sockburn about 3.15 p.m. _ Arrangements similar to those tor tho reception to Mr F. C. Chichester have been made for the control of the crowds inside the grounds, an £J j'"® landing ground has been roped off but the public are asked to refrain from encroaching in any way on the reserved area. After the landing. On alighting from his Moth Air Garden will be tendered a reception on l,.. e lialf of the citizens by Mr James Leslie, chairman of the Pap.irua County Council, the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr J. K. Archer). Sir Francis Boys (nresident of the Canterbury Aero Club), and Mr James Carr (president of the Canterbury Progress League). Ho will be motored round the grounds, and, no doubt, the public welcome will be worthy of such an occasion. In the evening Mr Garden will be the guest of Stadiums (Christchurch), Ltd., at Monica Park, where he will motor round the track before the broadsiding commences. Members of the committee of the Canterbury Aero Club will entertain Mr Garden at luncheon at Ballantyne's on Monday. On Tuesday morning he will leave for Ashburton, and while in the south he will spent some davs also at Timaru, Oamaru, and Dnnedin.
AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE. MR OSCAR GARDEN ENTERTAINED. [THE FH.EBB Special Service.] WELLINGTON, November 28. Mr Oscar Garden, the distinguished aviator, and Mr J. W. Stannage, the wireless operator who accompanied AiiCommodore Kingsford Smith on his trans-Atlantic flight, were the guests at a luncheon at Government House to-day.
