A TRAIN FERRY.
TO TKC EDxTOB Or THE F&ZSS Sir,—You report me as having said at last night's meeting at the Chamber of Commerce that the freight from New Zealand to -the United Kingdom in modern big 20-knot liners could be done for 7s 6d per ton. What I thought 1 said was that the fuel cost per ton of freight could be met for 7s 6d. Seeing that the present average of outgoing freight is over £9 per ton, your readers may wonder what I was talking about. However, the-fact remains that wandering about New Zealand coasts by the big Home liners is expensive to the New Zealand producers and with a train ferry in operation this expen« sive meandering oould bo stopped.— Yours, etc., L. C. WALKER. November 28th, 1930.
