ALARM OF FIRE.
A DISAPPOINTED CROWD. Attracted by the arrival of three fire engines and shouts of "Tho Cathedral's on Fire" and "Everybody's Theatre is going," a large crowd quickly gathered in Cathedral square last evening at about a quarter to nine o'clock. No fire was visible. Two firemen, carrying a small chemical extinguisher, clashed up the stairs of a building. The crowd was alert, hoping for the best. ' Ah," said the knowing ones, "they are going to get at it from the top." Ihen a police sergeant and a constable arrived majesticallv and disappeared up the stairs Presently the news beg«n to circulate—''Only a chimney on fire." Almost immediately this was confirmed, and the engines departed amid cheers from a disappointed but laughing crowd. Actuallv the cause of the trouble was a chimney in the offices of the Blue Star Taxis. The Central Brigade received a telephone message and a box call.
