Although the weather was very wot ? evening, there was an attendance ot about rorty at the annual congregational meeting of Rev" \v n R X u h t X t h ' * The J * tiutchison presided. Special reference was roade to the devoted services of the Women's . Guild, the members of the Presbyterian Women's Mission r>'i\° n Vll ° ® u n. da y School teachers, ?t- S f? bodies, the choir, and to Miss Bertha Marshall (who, Sunday after Sunday, beautified the Church with flowers). The average attendance wU rSu iar *, erl . y commission had been 1 ~ ? desirability of more regular attendance at worship on the part of some members of the congregation was emphasised. The elders expressed warm appreciation of the zealous, and untiring way in which Mr Hutchison continued to discharge his duties. The Board of Managers, in their report, stated that the general fund of the church had not recovered from the set back caused by the change in the date of closing the financial year. The total of the fund, amounting to £705 12s 6d. was, however, considered satisfactory, takine into consideration the depression that existed. In addition to the figures given, about £390 had been raised bv the different church organisations, for special objects. The halance-sheet showed a debit balance at the beginning of the year, of £79 19s 6d and at the end of the period. £B6 3s. The receipts had been £705 12s 6d, and tae expenditure. £7ll 16s. The reports and balance-sheet were adopted. Reports and balance-sheets ot the Sunday Schools and other organisations in connexion with the church were submitted, all being of a most encouraging character. Messrs W. O. Wilson. A. Harper. J. C. Scott, and D. A. Blake were elected to act with the elders as the Board of Managers. A motion was passed expressing appreciation of the Rev. Mr Hutchison's services. Votes of thanks were also Passed to the church treasurer (Mr W. Carson Wilson), and the secretary (Mr E. H. Trollope). KAIKOURA.
The annual camp of the Boy's Brigade is to be held at Waikouaiti in December. It is expected that several members of the Ist Kaikoura Company will be present. A camp fund has been started, and boys are saving for this great event. Mr Tom Foster, while riding a horse near Mangamaunu, had the misfortune to suffer injuries to his head owing to the animal stumbling on. the riverbed, and throwing him. Mr Foster was picked up by Mr M. Baton in an unconscious condition and taken to Mr P. J. Boyd's residence. Subsequently it was found that bis injuries were not ve*ry serious. The annual meeting of the Kaikoura Swimming Club was held in the Town School, Mr W. A. Barker (vice-presi-dent) prosiding. Messrs K. Firkin and B. Borthwick were elected members. The treasurer submitted the balancesheet, vcliich' showed the assets to consist of £2O 5s 8d (cash in bank), and material to the value of £6 10s 6d, the liabilities being 10s. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr F. H. Flower; president, Mr W. A. Barker: vicepresidents, Dr. R. T,. Withers, Messrs C. A. Jensen, and A. Gooch; captain, Mr A. S. Robinson; vice-captain, Mr "E. Ffrkin ; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. Morris; auditor. Mr A. , Gooch; caretaker, Mr T. S. Valentine; committee, Messrs T P. Valentine, F. F. Flower. A. Gibson, B. Borthwick. B. Sabiston, G. S. Wallace, and R. KClark : ladies' committee, Mesdames R. L. Withers, R. Clark. Misses 1., H.. and Nola Stubbersfield. B. Smith, tt. McLennan, and I. Soott. The subscription fee was fixed at 2s 6d. The a'rrangements and date for the holding of a beach gala were left in the hands of the committee. A sub-com-mittee, consisting of Mosstb A. Barker, A. S. Robinson, ind O. S. Wallace, was appointed to report on the cost-of building a triple swing for. the use of children at the bathing sheets. | HANMER SPRINGS. Many friends among the patients and staft at Queen MaTv Hospital, and residents of Ilanmer, met on Wednesday evening at the Government Tea Kiosk to bid farewell to Mrs M. Pickrell, who has made herself very popular, and who is leaving Hanmer. Mr Hopkins presided, and in making thee presentation of a handsome writing case, and b'rush, referred to the loss the community would suffer, and wished Mrs Pickrell success in her, new sphere. >fr J. Asbtpn responded on behalf of Mrs Pickrell, and thanked, all present for the gifts, which, hp said, would, always remind Mrs Pickrell of the very happy times she had spent at Hanmer. OtheT speakers referred to the many sterling qualities of the guest of the evening. Refreshments were served, and an enjoyable evening was; spent.
CHEVIOT. There was a representative attendance at the annual congregational meeting of Knox'Presbyterian Church, Cheviot, which was held ,in the Presbyterian Hall. The Rev. G.. B. Jar-, dine presided, and the Moderator (the Rev. Mr Raven) was also present. The various reports on the church work for the year were presented by Messrs G. Telfer, W. Seaton (in the- unavoidable absence of Mr A. M. Hyde), 11. N. Buttle, Mrs T. Stevenson (Ladies' Guild), Miss M. Orchard (Sunday School), th© Rev. G. B. Jardine (Sunday Schools at . Domett, . Spqtswood. Parnassus and Gore Bay). T.he. finaneial statement showed a c'redit balance. :of £3 6s. The reports arid" balance-' sheet were adopted. The following were elected a management committee: —Messrs C.. G. Abbot, A. R.- Clallendar. D. Fraser. A. M. Hyde. A. C. Hyde, T. Lochart.' O; Orchard.- H.' N; Buttle, arid A. D. Fraser. In a short address the Moderator spoke of the work of the church, and congratulated the Minister (th© Rev. G. B. Jardine). office-liearers. and the congregation on the verv satisfactory work done during the_ year.'
